suns out, tats out

Summer is finally here! It is the perfect time to show off all your new ink. While you're out enjoying the warmth and fun, its essential to remember to take care of your skin. Here are some tips to ensure your tattoos stay looking their best all summer long.

NEW INK….

If your tattoo is brand new, you’ll want to avoid direct sunlight and submerging your tattoo in water for about three weeks! Both of these can interfere with the healing process and effect the quality of the final result! Water exposure such as pools, the ocean, or hot tubs, can increase the risk of infection to your new tattoo. A new tattoo is an open wound, which is susceptible to bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants that can be found in water. Prolonged sun exposure can also be dangerous! Not only can it cause your tattoo to fade, but if the skin gets burnt it can cause complications such as blistering or scarring. Summer can also be a sweaty time. This is why it is so important to wash your tattoo with non-scented soap. Washing all of the dirt and bacteria off your tattoo will prevent any infections or irritation.

SUN PROTECTION…..

Regardless how long you’ve had your tattoo, it is important to use sunscreen! (ON HEALED TATTOOS) The suns UV rays can fade and damage your tattoos over time. Be sure to apply a high SPF sunscreen to your tattoos whenever they are exposed to the sun. Re-apply every few hours, especially if swimming!

STAY HYDRATED….

Hydrated skin is healthy skin! Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated inside and out! Dehydrated skin can lead to dryness and peeling, which will affect the appearance of your tattoos.

MOISTURIZE REGULARLY….

Whether you are going out in the sun or not, it is important to keep your tattoos moisturized to prevent dryness and maintain their vibrancy. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to hydrate your skin daily. Now go show off those sick tattoos!
